IFCO donates 30,000€ to support food banks during Fruit Logistica 2015

Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel and Berliner Tafel receive donations at world’s largest fruit and vegetable industry fair

BERLIN, GERMANY February 5, 2015: IFCO SYSTEMS, the leading global provider of reusable packaging solutions, has donated 30,000€ to support the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V. and Berliner Tafel. The company presented food bank representatives with the donation at the 2015 Fruit Logistica as part of the company’s Worldwide Responsibility program, through which it has donated over 150.000 RPC (Reusable Plastic Containers) and co-financed 43 refrigerated vehicles for more than 70 food banks around the world.

IFCO encouraged fair attendees to also support the food banks by hosting a lottery where participants could win attractive prizes, then matched the funds raised and presented the entire amount to food bank representatives. Wolfgang Orgeldinger, CEO of IFCO SYSTEMS said, “IFCO believes strongly in the importance of food banks here in Germany and around the world. We are pleased to continue our support of their good work in providing fresh, healthy food to the needy.”

Jochen Brühl, Chairman of the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V. and Sabine Werth, chairwoman of Berliner Tafel e.V., accepted the donation on behalf of their organizations. Mr. Brühl said, "We sincerely thank IFCO SYSTEMS for their continued commitment to the food banks. Their support helps make possible the provision of food to 1.5 Million people in need throughout Germany.”

Mrs. Werth said, “'I am very grateful for the long lasting support from IFCO. The green reusable plastic containers and sponsorship of refrigerated vans are a perfect help in mastering the daily tasks of Berliner Tafel.”

WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY supports food banks by co-sponsoring a refrigerated van and the donation of RPCs at the Tafel Federal Congress

tafel wiesbaden_web

Wiesbaden/Pullach, June 2014 – The Tafel Federal Congress, held once a year at annually changing locations, offers the German food banks perfect surroundings for an exchange with other food banks, volunteers, sponsors and friends. This year’s congress took place in Wiesbaden from June 5 – 7. More than 600 officials of the 919 food banks across Germany participated at the venerable buildings at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden and on Saturday outdoor at the Mauritiusplatz.

This year, IFCO supported within the scope of the initiative and the participation at the annual congress two food banks, Berlin and Wiesbaden. IFCO’s consignment of 520 ecologically friendly RPCs (Reusable Plastic Containers) will enable from now on the  Wiesbadener Tafel to deliver, without loss of quality, tons of food to the ones in need and associated institutions. Moreover, the Berlin food bank received a refrigerated vehicle for delivering fresh food - IFCO co-sponsored the van by donating € 10,000 to guarantee a coverage of costs for maintenance and leasing.

Ruth Friedrich-Wurzel, chairwoman of the food bank Wiesbaden and Sabine Werth, founder and head of the Berliner Tafel, both received the donation on Friday, June 6. The van and 520 RPCs were officially handed over right in front of he famous Kurhaus in Wiesbaden. Jochen Brühl, chairman of the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e.V. joined the handover as well as other representatives of the association and was more than happy to have two of the association’s food banks receiving donations by the long-term partner WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY.

IFCO’s combines its annual presence at Fruit Logistica with social engagement as part of their WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, and once again supports the Berliner Tafel in their ‘clean up’ action.

Berlin/Pullach, February 2014 — The Fruit Logistica in Berlin, known the world around as the fruit trade’s leading fair, once again broke the record with over 2,600 exhibitors. Nearly all of the exhibitors decorate their stands with high quality fruit and vegetables.

At the close of Fruit Logistica 2014, IFCO once again provided the Berliner Tafel with both reusable containers and staff volunteers to support their now traditional ‘clean-up’ action at the trade-fair grounds. IFCO’s consignment of 2,500 ecologically-friendly ROCs (Reusable Plastic Containers) made it possible to collect and deliver, without loss of quality, 100 metric tons of food to the food bank and its associated institutions. This year 300 volunteers including those from IFCO filled the ‘green crates’ to their brims and gathered more than 20 truckloads with a wide range of fruit and vegetables.

Sabine Werth, founder and had of the Berliner Tafel, was once again delighted with the help and support provided by the WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative. “IFCO and the green crates were, this year as well, were the optimal basis for the transport of over 100 tonnes of food. We’re very thankful that IFCO gas once again supported us abundantly. It’s through companies such as IFCO that we’re in the position to master the logistical challenges at the end of Fruit Logistica, no matter what amount or variety of produce needs to be transported.” This year, for the first time and on the same weekend, it was possible to save the highly perishable food by converting it to fruit spreads, chutney and vinegar and thus use 100% of displayed at the fair.

Wolfgang Orgeldinger, the CEO of IFCO systems, confirmed support of the Berliner Tafel in the coming years. “What we started with the Berliner Tafel in 2009, be it the co-sponsoring of refrigerated van, providing both our green crates and staff volunteers, will be continued into the future. The Berliner Tafel and IFCO have been closely associated for years and we’re very pleased that, through the WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, IFCO can provide our Tafel partner a wide range of support. Hygiene and freshness are the key factor in fruit & vegetable logistics. It’s our job to guarantee this in each step of the logistical process for the Tafel, just as it is for our retail clients.

As part of the WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, IFCO has helped to finance the purchase of refrigerated vans for the food bank movement and has thus far sponsored 39 vehicles. Further, food banks around the world have been provided with more than 115,000 of IFCO’s reusable containers (RPCs) for use in transporting and storing sorely needed produce. These green crates are a hygienic and ecologically friendly alternative to one-way corrugated packaging and have been a key element in reducing the food banks waste-disposal expenses.

IFCO supports Food Bank in Lauterbach with vehicle sponsoring

By sponsoring a refrigerated van for the Lauterbacher Tafel (Lauterbach food bank) as part of their WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, IFCO enables optimum transport of fresh produce.

Lauterbach/Pullach, 17.10.13 – during a celebration at the Mercedes car dealership at Umgehungsstraße 29-31, a refrigerated van was handed over to chairwoman Andrea Riedesel Freifrau zu Eisenbach and chairman Ulrich Baier, which is urgently needed for their daily work. The logistics provider IFCO, which is known for its green crates for fruit and vegetables, significantly contributed to the purchase by donating a sum of € 5,000.

"The refrigerated van is a great help for Lauterbacher Tafel. It makes it easier for us to transport fresh food quickly and in optimum quality to their destinations. Lauterbacher Tafel and the entire team are very grateful for IFCO's support", says Ulrich Baier.

Jürgen Schuler, IFCO SYSTEMS sales representative, was also pleased: "Hygiene and freshness are decisive factors in the logistics of fruit and vegetables. Both have to be guaranteed in each step of the logistic process, at the food bank level as well as for our retail customers. We are able to achieve this for the food banks by combining RPCs and refrigerated vans. We are delighted to be able to support a growing number of food banks thanks to WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY."

As part of their WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, IFCO is committed to financing refrigerated vans for food banks and, so far, has sponsored 37 vehicles. On an international level, food banks worldwide use more than 110,000 IFCO RPCs for delivering and storing the required food. These green crates are a hygienic and environmentally friendly alternative to cardboard one-way packaging and significantly help reduce disposal costs for the food banks.
