RPCs will be donated after the United Fresh 2013 show
TAMPA, May 14, 2013 — IFCO SYSTEMS, the global leader in Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) for fresh products, today announced that it will provide containers to Feeding America San Diego (FASD) to support that organization’s “School’s Out, Hunger is Not” program to meet the needs of school kids during the summer. Feeding America San Diego (http://feedingamericasd.org/) will receive the RPCs after the United Fresh 2013 show May 14-16 in San Diego and then reuse them to transport grocery products from its facility north of downtown to more than 190 partners.
“IFCO is making an annual tradition of supplying RPCs to local food banks after the United Fresh show. Providing RPCs is one of many ways to support organizations like Feeding America San Diego, which will use them to improve productivity throughout their supply chain and decrease their carbon footprint,” said Fred Heptinstall, President and General Manager, IFCO SYSTEMS US.
Established in 2007, Feeding America San Diego is San Diego’s largest distributor of hunger-relief food, more than 21.5 million pounds within the last year, and the only Feeding America affiliate in the county. FASD works closely with over 160 partner agencies, local school districts, corporate partners and a network of volunteers to serve 73,000 children, families and seniors in need each week. Devoted to feeding the hungry, advocating for a sustainable future and educating the community, FASD is committed to building a hunger - free and healthy San Diego through innovative programs and collaborative partnerships.
“Feeding America San Diego relies on community-spirited companies like IFCO to help us feed the thousands of families in need of food assistance. The IFCO RPCs are an efficient, environment-friendly way for us to transport food and other products for our direct-to-client programs and partner agencies, allowing children, families and seniors to access much needed nutritious meals,” said Jennifer Gilmore, executive director at Feeding America San Diego.
As the market leader with more than 170 million RPCs in circulation worldwide, IFCO is the leading provider of reusable containers to the fresh food sector. IFCO handles all RPC logistics, from manufacturing to cleaning to re-entry into the supply chain. After retail use, IFCO RPCs are folded, collected and shipped back to one of IFCO’s service facilities, where they are sanitized and prepared for re-use.
